I suffer from SAD, a form of winter depression. I find the post Christmas period very difficult. I took this photo on January.
Still waiting for Spring

Then made this sketch:
Still Waiting for Spring sketch

This  is my first attempt at painting not only on the front but also the sides. What do you think?

This wooden panel was a gift from my friend Graham of the Cuckoo's Nest

Winter Sun

We had a day of some warmish sun so I sat and did a sketch outside. Needless to say the sun has, now, taken fright and disappeared. I am beginning to get dragged down by the length of this winter now.

Top of Mill Street

This is the view from the front of the CoOp. This time I painted with light washes of watercolour first and then got into the detail. Gosh, the cars were difficult to paint!

Next time, I think draw the basic shapes in pencil first, develop the painting with light washes and then ... enjoy the detail. This should allow me to keep better control of the pictures focus.

Snow Coffee

This one was done with crayon and watercolour paint whilst suffering from cabin fever due to the recent snow.

Finished

Next time paint all in first in big shapes and then draw on top. If I start with the drawing I get involved with the detail. I have saturated the colours here in Photoshop and will leave this picture for now.

Colour and light; WIP

This is a scan as I left this to late to photo as SueC suggested. I stabbed myself on the side of my head with a large steel ruler which was sticking out when digging for pens. Does this make it an industrial injury? I am fine now but it stopped work for the day.

Abbey Street

Thank you all for the good wishes you sent me. My voice still does not work ... first thing in the morning it takes some effort to even get it to squeak!

Work on this picture has speeded up but there is still away to go. If you click to enlarge there is a dead bug in front of the lady's face. I've now taken glass cleaner to the scanner ... now!

Spem in alium finished

Well ... have learned things from this drawing. The starter is that the pen I was using does not use water proof ink as per the label on the barrel. Drawing would be easier if I started from the back next time. Seriously think of drawing a smaller size next time; A4 took around a
90 hours.

Spem in alium

'Spem in alium' by Thomas Tallis was the new CD played in my friend's car when we went for a day out in the Cotswolds a few weeks ago. Wow! Listening to this music and my mistranslation of the title as 'Hope in another' started me on developing a painting on my feelings about the evils of the fundamentalism of my local church, St Leonard's.

My friend has since given me a copy of the CD for a Christmas gift. I am most grateful!
I am curious about how you feel about being shown process shots of my work as it develop? I love seeing it an other artist blogs.

"See how the lilies of the field grow."

My daughter R gave me some amazing lilies. So at breakfast over the last week I have been doing some drawings from life.

Toll bridge

I am looking for a new 'take' on the toll bridge. This view has been done to death. I have an invite to paint from the lock island on Wednesday and Thursday.

This is the closest to a shopping centre in our village ... outside the Co-Op. I used watercolour pencils and paint.
Outside the butchers ... the white building in the Co-Op drawing. Once again Watercolour pencils but using my Aquash pen.
Sheep using the Aquash pens filled with dye based ink.
