'Constraint' is finished!!!

Caught myself niggling away at details in this painting. "Stop that now!" I have signed it and will varnish at the end of November. Thank you Miss T for being such a willing model.

Still a Curate's Egg!

This painting has moved forward. The rib cage is beginning to be fine and the head needs finishing. I am still not sure about it and end up doing chores as displacement activity!!!!!

Rainy Sunday

Graham and I took down the exhibition at the res. He parked the car in the door and we had lots of help to load the paintings. Looks like we will be invited back next year.

Started work on "Bones" again to my relief. It was to dark when I finished painting to take a photo. This picture has been admired by another Graham, who services my bike, and in exchange for designing some more tatts for him he is doing some work on my bike.

Nice tatt! Hope my work will do it justice.

Done!

The paintings have been hung over notice boards which we covered with paper. We can see my photos of the reservoir on my other blog - Farmoor Reservoir Pictures.

Calming down

Joe, Graham, and Lucy.

We hung our pictures at Oxford Sailing Club this past weekend. My fellow artists Joe and Graham along with club member Forence did the hard work and my friend Lucy helped me supervise the work. Sue Templeman was away so Joe looked after her pictures.

I propped this painting of my daughter Ruth which is still on it's board in the window.

Many thanks to Lucy for taking the photos!

Updates - watching paint dry & diverse things

My oil paintings are still too wet to paint on yet. Sigh! I think it will be at least another week before I can even consider trying.

I experimented last night with printing my own business cards. I used some perforated card stock and discovered that you can not print on the back. The pictures on the back bleed out into some interesting patterns but otherwise unusable. The quality of the card stock is no where as nice as the professionally printed cards I used to have but it will have the advantage of at least being easy to update and cheap.

Tagged!!

I have been tagged by Sue to list 7 things you may not know about me.

  • I used to have bears under my bed. I think they have gone now.
  • I saw a man have his head chopped off in the street after seeing Haile Selassie parade past me in Morocco in the late 50s.
  • Played ‘Barbies’ with the Beatles on a flight to the states in 1964.
  • I came face to face with a grizzly bear there. We both ran away.
  • Picked wild oats as a holiday job. I deny sowing any!
  • I think walking when there is a hoar frost magical.
  • I am shy.
I am unable to tag anyone as Sue has tagged the last of the bloggers untagged om my bookmarks.

"Constraint" is almost finished

This does not mean that it will be finished quickly. I used a lot of glazing medium which takes like forever to dry. You will need to click on the picture to see the stroke detail.

'Future' is finished

When I varnish this in November the shiny patches will disappear. This is a clean wrapped canvas (no nails showing) so I will paint the sides in acrylic.

Bones are great

I feel that the arm is beginning to work and hope to do the same thing with the rib cage. The figure needs to be darker and the red of the bedding will need to be toned down. During the last few weeks I have hit the "wall" with this painting and, as always, with perseverance things are coming together.

This painting started as a meditation on the damage that life has done to me and to show that I was strong still. During the painting I realised that I was also showing my pain. This is a tough painting.

Decisions are difficult

Still thinking on this one. Do not take the flesh colours as settled yet. I am beginning to feel that I understand this painting now ... I hope!

A rare sighting

I had a birthday last Sunday so started spring cleaning my studio. I tend to work on the archaeological method of tidiness ... seven years deep! The recyling bin is full and the sitting room behind still needs tidying.
