A Wedding Gift

'The Kiss'

200 x 150 mm

I received a lovely commission last month to produce a painting for an #Armaleggan Morris wedding. This watercolour and ink painting shows the couple in their dancing clothes and 'disguised' faces.

The Sin of Sloth is Finished

Sloth

'Sloth'
canvas, acrylic, oil

Well, it's  amazing how just a little more effort and one more glaze has made all the difference. My son also kindly spent more time trying to get a a good photo of the painting.

The Sin of Envy is Finished

Envy
'Envy'
canvas, acrylic, oil
30. x 25. cm
Lorna Marrison

I started on 'The Angel and the Seven Deadly Sins' in January. It has been a bit of a slog working on eight canvases at once. I think I have improved my productivity as a result because I could move on to the next canvas when paint needed to dry. However, I have looked at this painting for so long I can no longer decide if it 'works';  so the down side of working like this is that you loose freshness of perception.

'Envy' is the resentment felt when you think the other person has something you lack. The joke here is that both dancers are played by Martyn Royper who dances for both Armaleggan Morris and Eynsham Morris

Sloth

Sloth

This one started in my drawing book but I moved it into Photoshop when I was overwhelmed with detail. When I am not sure putting in detail is my first recourse but after many re drawings the expression was right but the tatters coat was a distraction. Looking at the background now I think I may remove it in the painting. Click too enlarge and see his face ...

'Tree Dancer'

Bright summer day down Pink Hill lane; leaves shimmers in the breeze and an Armaleggan Morris dancer waits to start the dance. Silence for now. Then music will start and all moves to reform to another 'now'.

This is the drawing/painting I am offering to be juried for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. My ambitions for it are to be accepted and then to sell it. Then the day dream ambition of winning one of the awards. My family's critique was that it was very "green".

Season's greetings

The Eynsham Morris sets out once more on the shortest day ... but wait who is that running to catch up? Armaleggan Morris have sent 'Old Harry' to harass and make mischief!
