Painted myself into a corner!

The left hand and arm has always been wrong and I have kept on hoping I could make it work. So today I have painted them out and will re-draw later. Should have done this a long time ago!!

Gah!

I hate it when that happens, especially when it's a face and one of the eyes just won't go right.

But, has to be done.

Do you know the late 60's / early 70's Hockney painting of a man in a shower? There's a huge black aspidestra covering the feet. According to Hockney he got impatient with trying to get them right, and so just stuck a huge (crude) leaf in the way.

And I remember an interview with Peter Blake, in which he claimed the reason some of his pop art portraits had one eye unfinished was because he couldn't get them the same!

SueC shape has bee altered but the hands are to important to wriggle out of doing a good job.

I, also, find feet difficult so have some sympathy with Hockney's response.

It’s amazing how some parts of a painting can just keep fighting back…there always seems to be one part that won’t quite come right, no matter how much you tweak it…painting out and starting again can be such a difficult decision…all that work gone…but it’s usually the best way, start afresh and hopefully all will be well. Looking forward to seeing how it goes :)
