I have grown up, having an extensive view of the Cherwell valley, using the expression "the floods are out". Here you are seeing the floods from the river Evenlode in late winter.

... or flood with part of a gate in the fore ground. I was trying to have a snappier title.
It scanned as a typo, but it made me comment, so it worked :O)
I would have commented anyway. It is a highly recognisable view. I don't mean specific to a single spot, but more as a generic, this is how the flood plane looks in this part of the country. A lovely image.
