I have used The Eynsham Morris dancers as my subject to explore folklore in our lives. In the days of green magic a male sun god was born at the Winter solstice, the longest night of the year. He, in conjunction with a female goddess, would return the sun and give fertility to the world before he faded at the end of the year.

So he leaves the St Leonard's church and the year is his ... a man to be found with his fellow dancers in a local pub and, perhaps, an earth god still plays.
